Ben Zwickl is an Associate Professor in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Rochester Institute of Technology. He conducts physics education research around how students transition from college to professional work in STEM, particularly in physics-related fields. His projects have focused on preparation for specific subfields, such as optics and quantum technology. He has also studied broader concerns in career development, such as communication skills in STEM, mathematical problem-solving in physics-related fields, innovation and entrepreneurship within physics, students’ career decision-making, and issues related to PhD admissions and completion. His research aligns with regional and national priorities to support an increasingly skilled and diverse STEM workforce. Ben earned his PhD in Physics from Yale University, which is where he first became interested in studying scientific career paths and how research expertise is developed.
